The 2011 Emmy red carpet showcased a wealth of understated beauty as actors arrived in minimal makeup and modest accessories to their brightly colored classic gowns. In homage to Old Hollywood, red, gold and blush tones were fashion’s favorites of the night, and – on the heels of NY Fashion Week – the gowns were worm without distraction, as if to honor the art of each piece’s design.
Fox favorites Sofia Vergara (in Vera Wang) and Lea Michele (in Marchesa) donned jaw-dropping scarlet gowns, setting a red tone for the night, as members of the best and worst dress lists alike arrived in ensembles to match the carpet. Fox newcomer, Zooey Deschanel, however, missed the mark with a pink and red frumpy frock with Jersey-poofed hair. She may be the cornerstone of adorably awkward indie pop, but it’s beginning to wear on us like Kristin Stewart’s tattered Converse.
